Hoy hace 147 años un grupo de ingleses afincados en Buenos Aires, concretamente unos trabajadores del ferrocarril entre los que destacaban los hermanos Hogg, fundaron el Buenos Aires Football Club. Primer club de fútbol de Sudamérica.
Para disputar su primer partido publicaron este anuncio en el diario The Standard de Buenos Aires el 25 de mayo de 1867:
«Today there will be a football match at Palermo; we believe it will be the first kick ever given in Buenos Ayres, and we understand that half town will be there if the weather proves favourable. The kick at the Boca never came off owing to the floods in the Potreros.»
Este histórico primer partido fue finalmente aplazado por causas meteorológicas y disputado el 20 de junio de 1867.
Tras sufrir varias crisis y periodos de inactividad el club finalmente desapareció de forma definitiva hacia 1881.
